Hitler was thrown into the Landsberg Prison along with General Ludendorff after attempting to overthrow the government after protesting the French Occupation of the Ruhr. While he was in prison, he wrote a book called "Mein Kampf" which outlined the first thoughts and ideas of Nazism which included Lebensraum, anti-semitism, anti-communist, the rise of the Aryan Race, and the need to re-arm and get rid of Versailles. After his release, Hitler created a group of men called the Brownshirts who help him intimidate and threaten The Reichstag into passing the Enabling Act. This act allowed Hitler to pass laws without asking the Reichstag and only 93 Social Democrats voted against it. By July 1933, all of the other political parties were outlawed after Hitler won 288 seats, which was barely a majority but was more than what any other political party had. He started from the bottom in 1928 by only have 12 members of the Nazi Party elected to the Reichstag and then in 1932, having 230 seats out of 647 which made them the largest party.
In my opinion, by letting Hitler rule with his Nazism ideas was a very bad idea. He got around to creating a military that was illegal because of the outcome of the Treaty of Versailles. His original ideas for Nazism like anti-semitism and the rise of the Aryan race. Since Hitler was a man who knew what he wanted, he probably had already seen the Holocaust coming. With ideas like those two mentioned, there was obviously going to be mass death involved.
