The nation gained freedom of press, assembly worship, and the right to strike "socialism with a human face." These decisions were threatening as they could have spread to the neighbouring country of Romania, but troops from several satellite states intervened. Eventually, Dubcek was arrested and Husak took office where he followed the Russian Line.
