The Weimar Republic were hit with many problems at the start. The first being that the government was in a very difficult position because both the left and right wing had no respect for the government. It then made it very hard for the government to be successful and make good choices for Germany. In addition, the Royalists also did not support the government because it was the "Social government who had told the Kaiser to abdicate." Therefore the leader, Ebert, was isolated. He could not hold control over Germany even though he led the government. Another challenge they faced was when both the Spartacists and Freikorps attempted to overthrow the government. They both have different reasons for overthrowing the governement. For instance the Spartacisits wanted Germany to be run by workers councils and the Freikorps were angered at them because the governemnt betrayed the German Army.
