“While Mandela was a great man in the struggle to end Apartheid in South Africa, globally he had very little impact in making the world a freer place.”
I strongly disagree with this statement. If time were to suddenly stop and the world ended after Apartheid, then maybe this statement would have a little validity. Cleary time has not stopped and the world lives on, and Nelson Mandela’s life has had an effect on the world comparable to few other great men. But farther reaching, Nelson Mandela’s life continues to have an effect on the world. As much as he has left this world in physical form, the more he continues to influence this world in an intellectual and moral form. Mandela’s presence remains. Since Apartheid, Mandela has influenced the world setting, a precedent for peace, leaving a legacy of patience, and becoming a symbol of hope.
Mandela was a symbol of hope because he is played in many movies, featured in multiple radio and talk shows, and written about in books, all around the world. His features in Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom and Invictus positively impacted millions around the world. Mandela was a giant of immense and unwavering intellect courage and moral authority and he changed the course of history.
Nelson Mandela left a legacy of patience. He was incarcerated in prison for 25 years only to become the first democratically elected president Africa had ever seen. This was a big moment in South African history. This would set an example and leave repercussions into the infinite bands of rising governments throughout the world.
Precedents of peace have been established by the greatest figures in history. Jesus Christ, Ghandi, and Nelson Mandela would be the top leaders of this list. It is an honor to have lived in a tie of one of the greatest leaders, one of the greatest advocates of peace who has ever lived. To have a statement dismantling some of Mandela’s influence, saying that he had little affects outside of South Africa is nothing short of preposterous. If the greatest leaders of all time were searched on Google, Ghandi would appear number one, followed by Mandela at number two.
Nelson Mandela is an obvious leader around the world. He is a symbol of hope. He set an irrevocable precedent of peace. He established a legacy of patience. His name will be had for good among nations into the fore-coming centuries. Nelson’s influence lives on. He is held up as one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen. His affects, inside South Africa, throughout the African continent and across the world, will be matched by few. Nelson Mandela wasn’t just a historical figure, he was a transformer.
